Grass-fed Cinnamon Butter Fat Bombs

Easy fat bombs recipe | Cinnamon fat bombs | Grass-fed butter fat bombs | Healthy fat bombs

Are you getting enough grass-fed butter in your diet? Grass-fed butter is a nutritional powerhouse, and unless you have a dairy allergy, I think you should be including it in your diet everyday.

(Experienced real foodies know what I’m talking about, but if you’re new to real food you should check out this post on why butter is good for you.)

Not all of my meals lend themselves to being topped with butter, so I’ve developed a few candy-like recipes that make it easy to add some butter to the end of a meal or snack.

One of my favorites is these cinnamon butter fat bombs.…

Fresh Tomato, Basil, and Garlic Sauce

Fresh Tomato Basil Garlic Sauce | Raw Tomato Sauce | Fresh Tomato Sauce | Tomato Basil Sauce

Fresh tomato, basil and garlic sauce is one of our all-time favorite recipes. Fresh tomatoes and basil are one of the BEST parts of summer, and they really shine in this simple recipe.

In fact, Jesse and I love this recipe so much that we now just call it “awesome” for short! Fresh tomato, basil and garlic sauce IS a bit of a mouthful, after all. 🙂

Recipe Notes:

If you want this sauce to really shine, be sure to make it with flavorful, in-season ingredients. While technically you can find all of these foods at grocery stores year-round, the results are truly divine when you use farm-fresh/homegrown tomatoes and basil.…

How to Make and Preserve Pesto

If you saw my last garden post, you may have noticed that we’re pretty much swimming in basil here. Although I’ve been snipping off bits of basil for meals for weeks now, to make a really big dent I knew we’d have to make some pesto. (Quite the sacrifice, right? :)) Last weekend we finally got down to it. We harvested two bowls about this size:

Harvested basil

It was a lot of basil, but when I looked at the plants afterwards you could hardly tell that any was missing! Ha. I guess that just means that more pesto is in our future.…

How to Make Peppermint Extract

Part of the reason that I decided to grow mint this year was so that I could try making my own peppermint extract. Jesse and I are pretty much obsessed with mint (especially mint plus chocolate) so we go through a lot of mint extract. I buy this brand of mint extract and think it’s great, but it’s not exactly cheap, so making my own seemed like a great way to save some money.

I finally got down to it last weekend. The extract has only been sitting for a few days so far so I can’t tell you how it came out, but I wanted to share the method now in case anyone else has an abundance of mint just begging to be used for something.…

Sugar-Free Elderberry “Syrup”

My mom has been into alternative health since I was in elementary school, so over the years I have consumed quite a bit of elderberry syrup. Elderberries are believed to be a potent anti-viral agent and thus I always take some elderberry syrup at the first sign of a cold or other viral illness. Despite my long history of taking elderberry syrup, however, it was only a couple years ago that I learned that you could actually make your own syrup. As with most foods, making your own gives you total control over the ingredients and, in many cases, can save you quite a bit of money.…
