Introducing Keira Slocum Lord

newborn KeiraSo I’ve been MIA from the blog lately…but with good reason. 🙂 Our daughter, Keira Slocum Lord, was born on August 14th at 3:17 pm, weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces. I had to be induced at 38 weeks because of pre-eclampsia, but thankfully both of us fared very well during labor and Keira is in excellent health. Given that labor inductions don’t always go smoothly, I am very grateful that things turned out so well. I will be sharing her birth story on here as soon as I get a chance to actually write it down.P1010006

Thanks to some initial breastfeeding challenges, lingering blood pressure issues on my part, and a killer three week growth spurt, we’ve had a rough first few weeks, but it seems like (maybe?) things are starting to improve.…

Things I Loved in June

Things I Loved in JuneAside from the fact that it’s far too hot here, June was a good month for me. Here are a few things I loved at home and around the blogosphere over the last month.

Great Things at Home

Watching our garden grow and grow. We are consistently enjoying lettuce and basil and have started to get a few sugar snap peas. The tomatoes are growing by leaps and bounds, although it will be quite a while before any of those are ready to harvest. I really need to do another garden update post, because just about everything is humongous compared to what it looked like a month ago!…

Things I Loved in May

Things I loved in MayMay has been a pretty great month. Here’s what’s been making me happy at home this month:

Finally enjoying some consistently warm weather after our very cold and snowy April.

Experimenting with some recipes for my upcoming e-book. Pineapple coconut ice cream is a definite winner!

Picking up our first local pastured chicken and local organic veggies of the season. The chicken, in particular has been a very welcome change. It tastes so much better than the organic chicken I had been buying at the health food store.

Starting our Hypnobabies class, in preparation for having our first baby at the end of August.…

Life Update; or, Where I’ve Been Since December

Big news here at Whole Natural Life: I’m pregnant!

Since I disappeared without any warning two plus months ago, this may not be a big surprise to some of you. 🙂 It was certainly not the most elegant way to take a blogging break, but around week 5 of my pregnancy I rapidly started losing my ability to deal with anything other than absolute essentials, so blogging just had to take a backseat for a while.

After a rough first trimester, I’m now almost to week 15 and happy to say that I’m feeling dramatically better most of the time. So, I’m looking forward to getting back to blogging regularly.…

Real Food/Natural Living Link Love: November 2012

Welcome to my monthly link love post, in which I share posts from other real food/natural living bloggers that I enjoyed over the last month. If you’ve come across any wonderful posts yourself, please do share them in the comments—there’s so much good stuff out there that I just can’t keep up with all of it on my own!

I know that many people on GAPS find that they can’t use nut flours because of food sensitivities or other issues. If you can still eat seeds, sunflower seed flour is a great baking alternative! This post from Empowered Sustenance shows you how to make your own at home.…
