Update from Life in Babyland

Family photo Nov 2013Hello! It has been such a long time since I have been able to blog, but never fear, we are all still alive here. Keira turned three months old last week, and for the most part it feels like we may be falling into some sort of routine that isn’t just all-baby-all-the-time, particularly since she’s now generally amenable to me doing things like eating/showering/laundry/dishes when she’s awake as long as she can see/hear me. So theoretically I may get to start spending her (five tiny) naps doing something other than eating/shower/laundry/dishes.…

Introducing Keira Slocum Lord

newborn KeiraSo I’ve been MIA from the blog lately…but with good reason. 🙂 Our daughter, Keira Slocum Lord, was born on August 14th at 3:17 pm, weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces. I had to be induced at 38 weeks because of pre-eclampsia, but thankfully both of us fared very well during labor and Keira is in excellent health. Given that labor inductions don’t always go smoothly, I am very grateful that things turned out so well. I will be sharing her birth story on here as soon as I get a chance to actually write it down.P1010006

Thanks to some initial breastfeeding challenges, lingering blood pressure issues on my part, and a killer three week growth spurt, we’ve had a rough first few weeks, but it seems like (maybe?) things are starting to improve.…

Looking for another way to get healthy coconut products into your diet? You must give these cookies a try. Dense, dark and chewy, these no-bake chocolate coconut cookies are packed with coconut oil and shredded coconut so they make a healthy and delicious addition to any meal or snack.

These cookies are 100% real food, but in my experience they also get rave reviews from eaters who don’t adhere to a real food diet. I’ve taken them to several “normal” parties and always receive compliments on how delicious they are.

This is a fantastic cookie recipe to make if you’re short on time and/or don’t want to heat up your house by turning on the oven.…

Real food on a budget | Save money on groceries | Save money on real food | Real food shopping

There’s no getting around the fact that real food is expensive. Depending on what kind of food you were buying before, switching to real food may mean a significant increase in your grocery budget. There are, however, a few ways to save money on real food without sacrificing your standards on food quality. Here are my 10 favorite tips.

1. Get a Costco MembershipReal Food & Natural Living Items at Costco

I’ve written before about the real food and green living items that I buy at Costco. If there’s a Costco near you, it’s worth paying them a visit to see what types of real food items they carry.…

Coconut Oil Mint Chocolate

Looking for an easy and delicious way to add healthy coconut oil to your diet? These coconut oil mint chocolates are SOOO good! They're also dairy-free, and refined sugar-free. Click here to try them today!
Do you like chocolate and mint? This homemade coconut oil mint chocolate recipe is delicious, and a great way to add some healthy coconut oil to your diet.

I don’t think that these mint chocolates taste coconutty, but we eat a lot of coconut products here so my taste buds are probably dulled when it comes to coconut. If you don’t want your chocolates to have any coconut taste, just substitute refined coconut oil for the virgin coconut oil called for in the recipe.
